Prices of motor vehicles with a cylinder capacity between 1000 cc and 1500 cc and three-wheelers have risen as a result of the increase in the Unit Rate Tax from midnight yesterday, the Vehicle Importers Association of Sri Lanka (VIASL) said today. However, the prices of some of the smaller vehicles with an engine capacity of less than 1500 CC such as Toyota Vitz, Passo, Honda Shuttle (Hybrid), Freed, Vezel, Insight, Suzuki Hustler and Wagon R (hybrid) decreased. The VIASL President Indika Sampath Merenchige said the Unit Rate Tax has increased from Rs.2.6 million to Rs.3 million resulting in the price of a Toyota Prius increasing from Rs.3.3 million to Rs.7.7 million and would likely discourage people from importing Japanese vehicles in the future. “This is the highest tax increase on vehicles in recent history. පසුගිය දා සිදුකරන ලද නවතම මෝටර් රථ තීරු බදු ගාස්තු සංශෝධනයට අනුව 800cc හා 1,000cc වාහනවල ඒකක බදු පහළ යාම නිසා ඉන්දියාවෙන් ආනයනය කරනු ලබන කුඩා මෝටර් රථ වර්ගවල මිල ගණන් පහළ යනු ඇතැයි ඉන්දියානු මාධ්‍ය වාර්තා සඳහන් කරනු ලබයි.
Business Standard වාර්තාවකට අනුව මේ සම්බන්ධයෙන් නිකුත් කරන ලද නව ගැසට් නිවේදනයෙහි සඳහන් පරිදි 800cc හා 1,000cc මෝටර් රථවල පහළ ඒකක බද්දකට යටත් වීම නිසා එම කාණ්ඩයේ බහුතර මෝටර් රථ ප්‍රමාණයක් ඉන්දියාවෙන් ආනයනය කරනු ලබන බැවින් Maruti Wagon-R වැනි මෝටර් රථ මිලෙහි පහළ යාමක් බලාපොරොත්තු වේ. වාහන ආනයනකරුවන් සඳහන් කරන පරිදි එම කාණ්ඩයේ වාහන බදු රු. මිලියන 1.5-1.6 සීමාවේ සිට රු. මිලියන 1.35 දක්වා අඩු වී තිබේ.
කෙසේ වෙතත් ත්‍රී රෝද රථ ඒකක බදු ඉහළ දැමීම හේතුවෙන් ඒවායේ මිල ගණන් විශාල වශයෙන් ඉහළ යාමක් බලාපොරොත්තු වන බව එම වාර්තා වැඩිදුරටත් කියා සිටී.
